I’ve been busy! I’d like to update you as to the changes I started a few weeks ago.

First of all, I have a new website! I’ve been a busy bee over here designing this blog and the website at stacieflorer.com. As you may notice, my website is a different site from this blog, Soul to Substance. I’ve linked them together through the menu bar, but they are both stand-alone sites.

Frankly, I don’t like most of the blogs that come with WordPress premium themes. I wanted you to be able to come to my blog and see the latest post without having to click a few times to get to the actual post. Remember back in the old days when you landed on a blog, you immediately could read the newest post in all of its fullness without the dang excerpt?

Additionally, if you’ve already looked at my website, not much is going to change over there. That is where the business side of writing happens…the who, what, when, where, and why of things. Once you have seen it, why go over the same ground? This blog is what will be changing all of the time…where I will be posting updated information on jewelry releases, business stuff and of course, the real meat and potatoes of what I want to write about every week.

It seems like everything online is built around the excerpt and minimal characters and the focus is on the shallow end of the pond. I like the deep water better myself, and I wanted my blog to reflect that.

So, on to the change in my work output.

I’ve always been enamored by the pearl. My friend Terah loves pearls because she says, “They bring light to the face,” which is important, especially as we age. Everything about a mature woman’s face begins to soften and blur a bit, and I think pearls are so luminous and they reflect that inner light of a mature woman. We are a bit like pearls, you see, taking the small pieces of grit that we’ve picked up along the way of living and turning those little irritations into a luminous life, or at least, moments of luminosity.

So many of my designs this time around will feature pearls.

I’m going to make quite of few of this style with pearls and some nice chunks of aquamarine and chrysocolla that I’ve had for quite some time. I’ve also got some quartz and some other goodies I will be offering as the dangle on this design too.

I’m also going to offer something a little different from what I’ve ever done before too. I’m working on some stud earrings that resemble the gauged jewelry some of the younger ones are wearing. I wanted to provide the look for a gauged plug without having to stretch the piercing to a dangling piece of flesh that may end up as a decision of profound regret as some of these younger ones get older.

Here is the first go at what I’m describing. It’s quite tiny, but I plan on making some bigger ones about 1/2 inch in diameter. I ran into a lovely young woman in the coffee house I frequent this morning and she had a pair of earrings that looked like pretty cute plugs. I had an illuminating conversation with her about what she preferred, and why she likes them and came away with some new ideas as well as quite proud of myself for being open-minded about this style of expression that is generationally different from what I’m used to.

And…she was so cool! All a bonus! Hello Maiya!

The earrings that I’ve photographed are available now at Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, VA. I’ll have them on my site on May 5.

I also have a new Instagram account called @soultosubstance. It’s more about reflecting on the things I’ll be writing about here, and some art stuff will be there, but it’s mostly about how I’m applying the things you can find in my category topics at the top of this blog. I’m sure things will change, move around, and evolve; but as a start, the categories I’ve outlined in my Welcome to Soul to Substance post are what I’m using as a guide initially.

I plan on writing a few times a week. I’m also thinking about cross-posting at Substack, but I have to see if that means I’ll get dinged by the search engines if I do that. Still so much to learn!

So that’s it, really…I’m so happy you are here and Welcome again!!!
